Saturday, Jan 30 - Alcohol Inks workshop by Maureen Leupold
Alcohol inks are a fun medium with bold colors and free-flowing properties. Crafters and scrapbook artists have used these inks to create interesting backgrounds for cards and photo pages-but there are many other possibilities that we will explore in this workshop.
Participants will explore ink properties and produce three items: a tile, a framed piece and a picture on Yupo paper. The materials will be provided plus you’ll go home with a starter set of inks and instructions on how to preserve your artwork.
Class will meet 1:30-3:30 Fee: $35 materials included.
Saturday, Feb 13 - Color as Light workshop by Bill White
In this class you will explore the properties of color (Hue, Tone & Saturation) and how they can be used for a more dynamic expression of light. We will make a painting from a PHOTO (I'll provide the image) first as just dark and light to understand the tonal pattern. Next we will mix colors that represent the bigger contrasts, then we will use higher saturation colors to stand for the lighter tones (to avoid just using WHITE to lighten). I will provide a palette of oil colors, brushes and a palette knife. We will paint on a gesso ground heavy paper. Bring a sketchbook or notebook and pencil (if available your cell phone with a camera). I will give brief demonstrations as we move through our stages of painting.
Class will meet 9:30-12, break for lunch, 1-3. Fee $60 materials included.
Please call The Village Art Gallery to reserve your place. Class size will be limited due to COVID. All classes and lectures will be held at the Studio-3096 Main Street.
