Karen Alsup has loved making art for as long as she can remember, always eager to pick up a brush or take another art class. That passion has remained constant, especially when drawing inspiration from nature. After earning her BA from SUNY Fredonia, she built a career in graphic design that took her to different places around the country. Eventually, she returned to Rochester, where she felt drawn back to painting while continuing to work in design. In 2020, she chose to step away from the corporate world to focus fully on her art.
Today, she works primarily in acrylic and mixed media, allowing her to explore a range of styles and ideas. Her work centers on nature and equestrian themes, inspired by the environments she has experienced over the years. She is particularly drawn to detals--light, movement, and form--and aims to translate that sense of observation and connection into each piece.
Karen is a member of the Mill Art Center and shows her work regularly around Rochester and surrounding areas. Her painting studio is located in the historic Lower Mill Building at 61 N. Main St. in Honeyoye Falls. Her studio is open every third Thursday from 4-8pm, and visits by appointment are always welcome.

A mixed-media artist, Elizabeth creates objects which are iconic yet playful, non-literal while rich with allusions. With nature's energies as her touchpoint, her work leans into the decorative impulse expressed as weaving, beading, slow-stitching, and mark-making. Structural aspects reference sacred icons, theatrical sets, and pageantry. The intimate scale of her pieces is a portal into these rich realms. Embracing both traditional "fine art" and "crafting" mediums, materials, and techniques, Elizabeth celetrates the references, histories, and energies of all materials/approaches needed to realize her vision.
Elizabeth earned a BFA in Studio Art from Roberts University and an MFA in Multimedia from the University of Iowa School of Art & Art History. Subsequent years spent in Bostonn and Los Angeles as a practicing artist and as a college instructor of art and art history, further cultivated her skills and interests. Life with family in Rochester, NY followed, where Elizabeth turned her creative abilities to success as an independent graphic designer and project manager. Her creativity also excelled in the areas of garden and interior design. 2024 saw Elizabeth's whole-hearted, full-time return to her fine art studio.
Elizabeth is an active participant of the greater Rochester Art Community, exhibiting regularly and volunteering at both The Mill Art Center & Gallery and Rochester Contemporary. Following invitational inclusion in the December 2025 Beyond Fashion Event at RIT, her wirk is carried by RIT Shop One. Further afield, her work has been included in exhibitions at Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs and The Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn. Elizabeth is honored to be a charter meber of the newly formed co-op of The Village Gallery, Caledonia.
